Curriculum at Community Literacy Lab Microschool

Our microschool blends the best of structured literacy, hands-on projects, and real-world skills. We follow South Carolina standards while keeping learning engaging, flexible, and personalized.

Themed Learning Worlds

Students explore 16 exciting “Worlds,” each lasting three weeks. Every World combines reading, writing, math, science, and history with fun, hands-on activities.

🌋 Volcano World – Earth science, geology, natural disasters

🏴‍☠️ Pirate World – Oceans, maps, navigation, history

🚀 Space World – Solar system, technology, astronauts

🦖 Dinosaur World – Fossils, paleontology, prehistoric life

🌱 Rainforest World – Ecosystems, biodiversity, conservation

🐧 Polar World – Climate, survival, adaptations

🏛 Ancient Egypt World – History, archaeology, pyramids

🦅 Bird World – Ornithology, migration, habitats

⚡ Electricity World – Energy, inventions, engineering

✈️ Flight World – Physics of flight, aviation history

🐠 Ocean Deep World – Marine life, deep-sea exploration

🏞 National Parks World – Geography, conservation, U.S. landmarks

🔭 Inventor’s World – Famous inventors, STEM challenges

🧩 Puzzle World – Logic, problem-solving, brain games

🪙 Money World – Financial literacy, trade, economics

📜 Storyteller’s World – Myths, legends, creative writing

Core Academics

  • Reading & Writing: Orton-Gillingham phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing with IEW.

  • Math: Learn Math Fast, real-world problem-solving, and math games.

  • Science & Social Studies: Projects, and experiments, connected to each World.

Enrichment & Life Skills

  • Art, storytelling, STEM challenges, and financial literacy.

  • Health, wellness, and movement activities.

  • Guest mentors and family workshops.

Portfolios & Growth

  • Students keep portfolios with reading, writing, math, and science samples.

  • Certificates of Achievement awarded after each World.

  • Progress is celebrated, not just tested.
