Enrollment and Academic Expectations

All paths meet twice per week. Learners may enroll in up to four classes within their selected path each semester. Course selections are made at the beginning of each semester, and families are encouraged to choose carefully, as schedules, staffing, and instructional planning are based on enrollment commitments.

Learners are responsible for completing assignments and coursework missed due to absences, late arrivals, or early departures.

Each learner is assigned a Guide who serves as their primary point of contact throughout the school year. Guides help learners set goals, monitor progress, navigate coursework, and access available resources and support. They also serve as a connection between families, instructors, and the learner to help ensure a successful educational experience.

Learner Portfolio

Community Literacy Lab maintains a portfolio for each enrolled Microshool learner. The portfolio serves as a centralized record of the learner's educational journey and include attendance records, course enrollments, goals, progress reports, assessments, work samples, writing projects, presentations, certificates, service activities, leadership experiences, dual enrollment records, and other evidence of learning and growth.

Families have access to a live snapshot of their learner's portfolio and are encouraged to contribute documentation from home, including homeschool coursework, extracurricular activities, volunteer service, awards, and achievements. Portfolios help support educational planning, demonstrate academic progress, document accommodations and supports, and provide valuable records for homeschool documentation, scholarship applications, college admissions, career readiness, and learners with individualized educational needs. If a learner withdraws or relocates, the portfolio may be transferred to the family to support a smooth educational transition.

Social Discovery Lounge (SDL)

The Social Discovery Lounge (SDL) is available to enrolled learners at no additional cost. SDL provides a supervised space for independent study, reading, creative projects, social interaction, and personal enrichment. The lounge is open on school days from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and may be used during scheduled SDL periods or as designated by staff.

Individual Tutoring

One-on-one tutoring is available outside of regular microschool sessions for learners in Kindergarten through Grade 12. Tutoring may be provided in reading, writing, mathematics, study skills, research, technology, and other academic areas based on learner needs and tutor availability. Individual tutoring provides personalized instruction, targeted intervention, enrichment opportunities, and academic support tailored to each learner's goals. Separate tutoring fees apply and are not included in microschool tuition unless otherwise specified.

Arizona State University (ASU) Dual Enrollment

High school learners enrolled in dual enrollment courses through Arizona State University (ASU) are responsible for meeting all college expectations, deadlines, and academic requirements. There are no additional Community Literacy Lab tuition charges for ASU dual enrollment courses; however, some courses may require textbooks, materials, or technology not otherwise provided.

Learners have up to one year from course completion to decide whether to convert their course grade into college credit and have it recorded on their Arizona State University transcript. Eligible families may use South Carolina Education Scholarship Trust Fund (ESTF) funds for approved ASU dual enrollment course expenses.

Community Literacy Lab provides guidance and academic support throughout the dual enrollment process; however, college credit is awarded by Arizona State University.
